Chess every Thursday
in downtown Superior
Two things happen in one room at The Stable Bar & Grill: free drop-in chess for anyone who fancies a game, and a rated league you can play for a season title. Both start at six.

rated chess $5 a night · Quick-rated · Clocks at 7:00 Three games in a four-player Quad against players near your rating, scoring toward a season-long title a 1200 can win outright. How the Superior Grand Prix works
A season, not a weekend
A tournament asks who is strongest. The Superior Grand Prix asks something else: who played best across a whole season, against people near their own strength?
Every Thursday you play three games in a Quad — four players of similar rating, everyone against everyone — and take home points toward the season standings. Miss a week whenever life requires it; only your best nights count. The largest single share of the prize pool, 45%, goes to nine class champions, one for each rating band. That is deliberate: it means a 1200-rated player has a title worth chasing from the first night to the last.
Ours, not the national one
This is the Superior Chess Club's own season-long competition. It is not the official US Chess Grand Prix and awards no official US Chess Grand Prix points — which is rather the point, because ours is a Grand Prix that every player in this room can actually win. The games themselves are genuinely Quick-rated by US Chess.
